Summer is here and the weather is going to be hot. Dressing for the season is an important part of keeping cool and comfortable as you go about your life. Gone are the days of being able to layer and you’re not left with many options on the style front. This week in the Prairie View at Village West Blog, we’ve got suggestions to help you combat the woes of summer heat by offering you tips for dressing for the upswing in temperatures this month.

Fabrics

Being conscious of the type of fabrics your clothing is made of can make a big difference when it comes to personal comfort in the summer months. Because the weather is warmer, you don’t want fabrics that retain heat like synthetics and polyester blends. Instead, choose natural fiber, breathable fabrics that are light and wick sweat away from your body. It’s easy to get uncomfortable when you’re sweaty, and trapped heat doesn’t help! Besides that, you don’t want your sweat to soak into and ruin your clothes.

Choose clothing made from cotton or linen, both are made from natural fibers. These are the lightest, most breathable materials and are perfect for the summer. Keep in mind that linen has a tendency to wrinkle easily, so factor that in when choosing your outfits!

Accessories

Summer is full of opportunity for accessorizing. Along with the necklaces and bracelets, add hats and sunglasses to your warm weather repertoire. Stay away from felt hats during the summer as they keep the heat in, instead, choose a straw hat! Hats add diversity to your outfits as well as keep the sun out of your face. Sunglasses are another good accessory to keep the sun at bay and look cool while you wear them!

Fit

Even though form-fitting clothing is popular these days, you might want to rethink that for the summer. Be more comfortable by choosing a looser fit. For women: maxi and sundresses are good choices as they’re light and breathable; for men: opt for loose linen or cotton shirts and or relaxed-fit trousers. There are many options to choose from, but the important thing to remember is that a looser fit allows for more airflow and will keep you cooler through the summer days.
